Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our curriculum incorporates a wide range of planned and emergent activities. The programme is child focused. Emergent activities follow children’s interests and are central to our planning. For more detailed information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.

Group and Mat Time

Group and mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session, where we welcome and farewell each other. We also share stories, songs and fun together.

Kai Time

This is time for children to take a break from their play, to eat, regain energy and socialise. Children talk, discuss nutrition, and show hygiene and independence skills.

Tidy-Up Time

At the end of the session, we encourage children to help put equipment away, and generally tidy up. We appreciate assistance from parents/caregivers.

Materials For Creative Construction

We are keen to use lots of different materials for art, etc such as magazines, wood off-cuts for carpentry, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops (please do not send toilet rolls and/or polystyrene). Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells, driftwood, etc.

To provide greater opportunity for learning, children will be invited to go on trips.

Laundry Facilities

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten. We appreciate it if parents could offer to wash towels, aprons etc. Parents will also be asked to launder the sleeping bag for his/her own child if it is used.

Our Pets

We have pets at kindergarten. If you are keen to take them home just ask!! It’s a great opportunity to care for them for a weekend or for the holidays.

Parent Library

We have a selection of books, videos, DVD’s and pamphlets on children’s development and parenting. We also have information about our local schools, transition to school, and relevant Education Review Office reports. We hope you will read them!

Lost Property

Please check the lost property box regularly for those 'lost' items.

Children’s 5th birthdays are celebrated at a farewell mat time. Parents may provide a treat for the children such as stickers or pencils, or a gift for the kindergarten e.g. book, game or toy cars.

Please bring a named legionnaires or bucket hat in summer months, as they must be worn for outside play.

What Food To Bring

We encourage children to bring a named lunch box with healthy food for their morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea (if attending for a full day). Can the children please bring a named and filled bottle of water. Water is available. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements or allergies.
