Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Nicki Chapman

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, and special events are also included in the programme. Below are examples of the key focus times. For more detailed information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we provide a range of challenging experiences. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. We have two mats - a transition to school mat and a main mat.

Kai Time

Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation. We provide sandwiches and children supply fruit for platters.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please help when you can.

Special Things We Do

On Wednesday we have a drama session starting at 9.00am. On Friday we have library and home contact books. The home contact book contains a work/information sheet relating to our week’s programme.

On the wall in the collage area is an extensive list of materials we collect such as magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.

Caring For Our Environment

Our kindergarten educates children and their families/whānau about the environment, our responsibilities and place in it.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten. We appreciate your support. Please take your turn to wash a bag of laundry from the basket located by the sign in sheets.

Our Pets

We currently have one frog, fish and two worm farms.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. Please see a teacher if you require some information.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located on top of the lockers by the locker room door.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time. We have a special routine, which includes their profile folder, a special song and other rituals. Parents/whānau are welcome to provide a small gift for the kindergarten.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with a healthy snack for lunch. Water is provided but children are welcome to bring their own water bottle. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.

Nut Free Zone

Don’t forget that our kindergartens are nut free zones, so please check that all items do not contain any traces of peanuts/nuts.

Kindergarten parents are allowed to park in the RSA car park at drop off and pick up times. Please respect the speed requirements. Remember, the parking outside the kindergarten is limited to 30 minutes.
