Our Session Times
Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Autumn is here and the chillier mornings are upon us. You will be aware that we were struggling to heat our Kindergarten as the school boilers were no longer operating. We have now had two new heat pumps installed which will keep us all warm for the duration of our stay in the Kendal School classrooms.
We understand, based on information from the Ministry of Education, that our building will be strengthened over the next few months. Some minor improvements to the building will also be done within that project. We are working with the Ministry on the full scope of works and will update you when we have a confirmed date for completion.
We remain committed to providing the Kindergarten experience for tamariki and their families at Kendal Ave and, like you, we can’t wait to get back into our old home. We’ll keep you posted with regular updates. Thanks again for your patience – we’re nearly there!
Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.
Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we have a group discussion about the programme, play group games, share stories/rhymes and sing songs. This helps children to develop a sense of belonging, and learn to express themselves in a large group. You are welcome to join in.
Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children as they open containers to eat.
This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents!
We always welcome and find creative use for many recyclable materials such as; e.g. magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls, washing powder boxes, or medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.
Our kindergarten is committed to caring for the environment. This helps to educate children and their families/whānau about reducing, reusing and recycling.
Kindergarten parents/whānau are allowed to park in the car park adjacent to the Plunket rooms.
We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, therefore we are assisted by parents who collect the washing when required. We appreciate your help with this.
A lost property box is located outside the front entrance.
We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a birthday hat and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents and whānau are always welcome at our kindergarten, and we know that the last kindy day is special, so please feel free to join us for the day, or at least your child’s last mat time. Please let the teacher know and we will work in the timing of mat time to suit you.
