Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Keryn Barlow

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our kindergarten days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Below are examples of the key focus times. For more detailed information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.

Whanau time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. Please respect this time by keeping quiet so children can concentrate.

Kai Time

We sit together for Kai time, to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children as they open containers and eat.

Tidy-Up Time and Parent Help

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. Parents are always welcome to spend time here supporting children and teachers.

Recyclables

Before you throw anything away, think of us and check if we might use it. We are always looking for wood for the carpentry table and natural materials are always in demand, e.g. shells, driftwood, sand, leaves, flowers, birds nests, feathers or stones, so please keep this in mind.

Parking

Parking is an issue for local residents. We ask that you park on the kindergarten side of the road ONLY. You are welcome to use the carpark if there are spaces.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located in the parent library. Please record any items that you borrow in the notebook. There is also information on local schools and services.

Lost Property

Check the green crates for any clothing that is missing, as that is where we ask children to put things.

Birthdays

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at mat time with a special crown and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents are welcome to provide a small gift/book for us to remember the child, and we have a memories book to also help us remember.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy snacks for their morning tea and lunch. Water is always available for children. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • A sandwich and a piece of fruit
  • Biscuit/cracker/fruit
  • Cheese slice and a piece of fruit
  • A muffin and a piece of fruit
  • Yoghurt in a resealable container
  • Dried fruit and cheese

However, we discourage:

  • Chocolate biscuits/muesli bars
  • Chocolate/sweets
  • Chips
  • Sugar drinks
