Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Susan Szentivanyi

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share ideas, have stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. You are welcome to sit on the mat to support your child and join in if you would like to.

Kai Time

Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children as they open containers and eat.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.

Parents can opt for 3, 4 or 5 sessions per week on days that are agreed between them and the teaching team.

4 days will cost $18.80

5 days will cost $47.00

Or nothing at all if you qualify for "no fees".

Signing In

For your child’s safety, you are required to sign your child in when you arrive, and state who will be collecting them. A signature is also required when your child is collected. If circumstances change during a session, please advise if a different person will be collecting your child.

It is best to send your child in comfortable play clothes - many kindergarten activities are, by design, messy. Please name all clothing and pack a change of clothing in a bag. Each child is allocated a locker space to hang their bags and jackets.

When entering and leaving the kindergarten, please ensure that the door from the street to the foyer and the door to the playroom are closed at all times.

Please discourage your child from bringing their toys to kindergarten. It may be distressing for them if the toy is lost or broken.

Parent Participation

All parents, caregivers, etc are welcome and needed at kindergarten. Some days you will want to contribute to your child’s learning or assist others in their play. At other times you may just sit in the sun and chat.

Transition To School

It is important to enrol your child at school at least 6 weeks prior to starting. Information regarding local schools can be found beside the children’s book area. We suggest visiting schools and looking for what you think will best suit your child.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located near the sign in sheet.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special card and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. We encourage parents and family to share their child’s celebration.

Regular attendance is essential to maintain your child’s place. Would you please ensure a message is left at the kindergarten if your child is unable to attend - i.e. illness, holiday, school visit etc.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy food for their lunch. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies. We ask that children supply 2 - 3 pieces of fruit a week. These will be shared out, along with a drink, for morning tea.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • Sandwich or similar
  • Crackers and cheese
  • Fresh fruit and veges [carrot, cucumber, etc]
  • Muffin/biscuit/dried fruit

However, the following are not allowed:

  • Chocolate biscuits
  • Chocolate/sweets
  • Peanut butter
