Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Nicki Chapman

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and encourage group learning. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group.

Kai Time

Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and support children as they open their containers to eat.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents - please let us know if you would like to help.

Please make sure your child has a named change of clothing in their bag every day and a named sunhat in Terms One and Four.

We appreciate you letting us know if your child is going to be away sick. Texting 027 550 8405 is the best method, or please phone the landline 342 7136.

We collect magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.

Sustainability and Gardening

Our kindergarten is committed to sustainability and recycling and we educate children and their families/whānau about the environment, our responsibilities and place in it. We have an extensive vegetable garden which we share with parents/whānau.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the weekly washing as required. We will place washing by the sign in book - please help by taking some home for us.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children's growth and development. Please let a teacher know which items you wish to borrow. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to use.

Lost Property

Please check the lost property box regularly. Items not claimed will be disposed of at the end of each term.

We celebrate your child's 5th birthday at a farewell mat time with a special card and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten.

What Food To Bring

Children are asked to bring a named lunch box with healthy snacks for their morning tea and lunch. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements or allergies. All food needs to be managed independently by your child.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • A sandwich and a piece of fruit
  • Crackers/fruit
  • Cheese slice and a piece of fruit
  • A small muffin and a piece of fruit
  • Dried fruit and cheese

Profile Folders

Each child has a book which is a record of their learning experiences during their time at Kindergarten. Parents are encouraged to borrow their books and contribute to them. (Please return promptly). Ask a teacher how you can add to them.

Many of the photos we take are made available at no charge. Bring a named pen drive and we will copy them for you.
