Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Susan Szentivanyi

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Links With Bromley School

We are situated inside the Bromley School grounds and have strong links with the school. We also share some aspects of our curriculum with the Junior School.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board and parent information area.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories, sing songs, and talk about what’s been happening. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to make contributions in a large group. You are welcome to join us at group times.

Kai Time

Healthy eating is supported by teachers, who supervise kai times and offer help and encouragement to the children.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help, or just arrive toward the end of session. All help is much appreciated.

As part of our daily and weekly routines, teachers and children are committed to recycling, reusing and reducing. We have our own edible garden, which we care for and harvest, as well as a worm farm.

We collect a variety of materials such as magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops, and welcome anything except toilet rolls, cigarette packets, matchboxes, and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand, e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.

Please park on the street, and DO NOT park in the Bromley School car park, as this is for staff only. PLEASE also remember to shut the gate and make sure that the only child leaving with you is your own.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we ask parents to support us by taking home the washing, put out by the sign in sheets, from time to time.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located in the parent information corner. Please check with a staff member before borrowing. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to use.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located on the trolley outside the front entrance.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at mat time with a special card and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents/whānau are all welcome to come and celebrate with us.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy snacks for their morning and afternoon tea as well as lunch. Drinks are not required as they are provided. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies. Unsuitable food items will be returned to your child to take home at the end of their session - if you have any questions about the suitability of an item please see a teacher.

  • Dried fruit and cheese

However, the following are not permitted:
