Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Nicki Chapman

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms. These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Mat/Group Time

We have a large group time at the beginning of the morning.

Small group activities operate throughout both sessions, for example, music, language and literature experiences. The teaching team plan to engage children in learning by responding to their emerging interest, providing an interesting and challenging learning environment and through the development of responsive and reciprical relationships.

Kai Time

Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children as they open containers and eat.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We always appreciate any assistance from parents.

Sustainable Practices

Our kindergarten is committed to implementing a range of sustainable practices, which the children and families are involved in - for example, recycling all paper and cardboard, wrap free kai and a Bokashi system for composting food scraps. We grow vegetables and fruit in our gardens.

During your child's times at kindergarten, their name may appear on the weekly washing roster (towels and cloths). We appreciate your help with this.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children's growth and development. These are located in the bookcase by the photocopier. Please record any items that you borrow in the notebook.

We celebrate your child's 5th birthday at  mat time with a special birthday dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy snacks for their morning tea and lunch. We promote a 'no wrap' lunch box. Please see our pamphlet for some tips on how to make this work for you. We have earned a Healthy Heart Award and appreciate your respect for these guidelines.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • A sandwich and a piece of fruit
  • Biscuit/cracker/fruit
  • Cheese slice/raw vegetables
  • A muffin and a piece of fruit
  • Dried fruit and cheese

Remember that treat foods such as chips, cake, lollies, etc are best enjoyed at home.
