Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Keryn Barlow

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Session Times

Kidsfirst Kindergartens Beckenham is open every day during term time and you are welcome to visit. Children can be enrolled at any age.The starting age varies according to how many children are "waiting" in the area, and the rate at which children leave for school.

When your child's name comes up for starting we will contact you by phone, email or letter and give a specific starting day. When your child starts you are welcome to stay until your child feels settled.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. The day begins with a welcoming mat time when most children have arrived. You are welcome to assist with extra tidying while waiting for your child.

Kai Time

Children are encouraged to have something to eat and drink at the kai table. Times and details are displayed on the wall.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. This is started approximately 15 minutes before mat time. We appreciate any assistance from parents.

Teachers' cars only in the driveway please. There is one disabled parking zone available on the road.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the weekly washing at the end of each week. Please add your name to the parent washing roster if you can help out.

Our Pets

We have lots of pets at kindergarten and we welcome families to assist in the care of them especially during term breaks. Pets are: frogs, hens, birds, fish, rabbit and a guinea pig.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children's growth and development. Please fill in the card in the book and put it in your 'wall pocket' until you return it.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located by the door - please check it regularly.

We celebrate your child's 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special card and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents are welcome to purchase a small gift for the kindergarten from the birthday box if they wish.

What Food to Bring

Morning children bring a named snack box with fruit/vegetables and a plain sandwich for their morning tea. Drinks are not required as they are provided.

Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.

A sheet of suggestions will be provided when your child starts.

Nut Free Zone

Don't forget that our kindergarten is a nut free zone. Why? Due to allergies.
