Our Session Times
We offer a morning session from 8.30am - 12.30pm and a full day session from 8.30am - 2.30pm Monday to Friday. We can usually be flexible with the number of sessions you would like your child to attend but some restrictions may apply, so please talk to one of our teachers.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.
Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.
Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we have a group discussion about the programme, play group games, share stories/rhymes and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills, have input into the programme and learn to express themselves in a large group.
Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation. They will support children to develop self-help skills and appropriate hygienic eating practices.
This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.
We collect the following recyclables for use in the collage area; small cardboard boxes, magazines, fabric, wool and milk bottle tops. We do not use toilet rolls, washing powder boxes, or medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand too e.g. shells, acorns, chestnuts, driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the park or the beach.
Please do not park up our driveway or across its entrance as this can put our children at risk. It is also necessary to keep a clear access way for emergency vehicles should they be needed.
We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the weekly washing each Friday. Please volunteer to do this when it is convenient for your family to take its turn. Thank you.
We currently have two budgies named Diego and Daisy. During long weekends and term beaks they need a holiday home - please let us know if you wish to have them as house guests. We also have goldfish.
We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located next to the sign in register. Please record any items that you borrow in the black notebook. There are many items of interest here, which you are welcome to borrow.
Lost Property/Art Work
Lost property and art work boxes are located on the trolley outside the front door. Please check these regularly.
We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special card and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Please talk to us if your child has specific cultural requirements.
What Food To Bring
Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy food for their morning tea and lunch. Drinks are not required as they are provided. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.
We encourage a wrap-free environment - small reusable containers for food inside the lunch box rather than plastic wrap and packaging please.
We suggest that the following, healthy, growing food may be included in lunch boxes;
However, the following occasional/treat food is strongly discouraged;
