Christmas stocking raffle
Heaped with all sorts of yummy treats and pantry basics, a giant stocking dominates Kidsfirst Bromley’s mat area and is the winning prize of their annual Christmas raffle.
The raffle is the kindy’s biggest fundraiser, with all the food being donated to the kindergarten.
It started when the kindergarten wondered what to do with their unused emergency earthquake supplies and, since then, generous kindergarten families have topped up the stocking with even more contributions.
Head Teacher, Blanche Head says its been a hard year for fundraising but the community have once again got behind the raffle and supported the kindergarten.
“It’s been harder and harder to get food donated and it’s been a tough year for everyone in Christchurch. But the community have always been great at helping out with these things and this year is no exception. ”
Despite tough times, the Bromley parents have been actively selling raffle tickets around the community for the past month, with nearly 2500 tickets sold.
And as always, the kindy is grateful for their support.
“We have this community and people come out of it and come back to us all the time. We couldn’t do all the great activities or have such wonderful equipment without their involvement and encouragement.”
The raffle will be drawn at a kindergarten Fun Day for the children, whānau and community. The Salvation Army has also donated sausages for the picnic and Bromley Teacher, Tony West hopes the money raised will go towards a small present for each of their kindy kids.
“It always comes back to the children,” says Tony, “the money raised will always be about them.”
