Tamariki here have freedom to explore, connect with other children and learn through play - in all seasons and weather conditions!  All around you will see children busy at work alongside each other, making choices for play that engage them with the people, the places and the things of our environment and community. Tamariki are encouraged to be mindful of and inspired by the world around them, and respectful of the environment they play and learn in.

Our big, beautiful backyard provides strong links to nature, with large established trees and shrubs, and a special “forest- bush” area for children to explore. Children are encouraged to take safe, calculated risks so they can discover their own learning potential.

The open indoor / outdoor environment provides a seamless flow for tamariki  to explore the world around them and to make discoveries on the way.

At Kidsfirst Burnham, we support children to take a lead in their own learning journey through innovation, inquiry and hands-on learning and discovery. Children aged 2-5 years can access a range of resources  to ignite thinking and exploration. Learning occurs in all spaces at the child’s pace, acknowledging the mana, wairua and mauri our tamariki bring when they come to us.

You're always welcome here - Burnham Kindergarten is a learning hub for all. Family/whānau spend lots of time in our kindergarten, meeting new friends, and  sharing their skills and interests with the children to extend their learning.  Whanaungatanga (family connection) is important to us, and we have wonderful support from our kindergarten whānau for kindy events and fundraising.

You will see us out and about visiting in Burnham and beyond exploring their community in their role as caretakers (kaitiaki) of our environment, and we're lucky to be close to the military camp, farming communities and the Rolleston township. Strong links with the Selwyn primary schools help to support the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from kindergarten.

We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days –building up to five days at your child's pace. This gives us, the teachers, time to get to know your child and provides consistency around supporting their learning.

Nau mai, Tauti mai -come in any time, we are very proud of our unique learning environment and would love to show you around.  Kidsfirst Kindergartens Burnham is a wonderful place to learn!
