Kidsfirst Kindergartens Property Manager Bob Lawson has retired after a solid twenty years plus working for our organization. As a parting gift it was decided to surprise Bob with a book - packed with memories of his time with us...

OUR TOP STORIES

Keeping the idea a secret was always going to be a challenge but we rose to it! Part of covert operations was to invite kindergartens to send in a message, story or any pictures to compile as ‘Bobs book.’

Fondly known as Bob the builder to many tamariki (as well as teachers and staff) he has helped with so many kindergarten projects over the years that there were many anecdotes to be shared.

At the recent Kidsfirst Xmas drinks and nibbles Bob was presented with his very own first edition ‘Bob the Builder’ printed and bound coffee table book full of our collated Kidsfirst love and appreciation, that he can enjoy with his feet up and a cuppa during his retirement.

Here’s a selection of what we shared…

The teaching team at Kidsfirst Glacier Country says, “typically Bob was the deep voice, (full of rye humour) at the end of a phone for us, and shared lots of site decisions with us he may even have had the label ‘the complaints department."

Kidsfirst Ilam farewelled Bob with a huge thanks for all of his help with their recent sandpit upgrade, “we appreciate all of your support with our kindergarten property and promise to keep it looking ‘sharp.”

The Kidsfirst Sumner teaching team laugh, “Liz (Head Teacher) always thought she had Bob on our side with regards to kindergarten property issues and that we got special treatment - until she attended a Head Teachers’ meeting and realised they all thought the same!”

Kidsfirst Papanui says, “you have always been a friendly face and carried out an enormous workload without complaint - we will miss you and wish you all the best in your new ventures.”

The tamariki and kaiako at Kidsfirst Phillipstown, “hope that his new ventures in life will be as rewarding as it has been a pleasure knowing you as part of our team.”

A delightful poem for retiring Kidsfirst Property Manager Bob from the West Coast Kidsfirst Karoro team:

Bob the fixer, he’s our man!

If something’s broke he’ll have a plan

Whether it’s an oven on the blink

A toilet blocked or a broken sink

Bob’s on the job and it’ll be like new

But he doesn’t help to clean up spew

ICT is not his field

Also he won’t fix your broken sonic shield

Soon he’ll won’t be there to help at all

So can we PLEASE have his home phone number to call?
We’ll all miss Bob, that’s for sure

The very moment he’s out the door :(
